 Grass for Syracuse?
« Thread Started on Jun 22, 2007, 11:56am »

The Onondaga County Executive has just announced support for replacing the rug surface in Syracuse with grass in time for the 2008 season. There had been talk about installing Field Turf, but a huge outcry in the community persuaded him to reconsider. The matter should come to a vote in the County Legislature in July, and, hopefully, installation will be completed during the upcoming baseball off-season .

I hate to be rude or obnoxious, but there is also a clamor in the community for a different major league affiliation, possibly the Mets, who are currently in Year 1 of a two-year deal in the Big Easy. Dissatisfaction over the scarcity of playoff contenders during the 30 years the Jays have worked with the Chiefs has taken a real toll in fan support in Syracuse.

Personally I like the Jays, and would like to see them continue in Syracuse, but only if there is an all-out commitment to winning at the AAA level. The well being of the Chiefs' franchise has to be considered, and I'm afraid the damage done under the days of Mattick, Gillick and El Gordo may be an obstacle that can only be overcome by a change in working agreements.
